Expressions of interest
I thought I would let you all know what I have been up to in Tasmania. I have put together a pallet of partially and fully seasoned material that I will be resawing when it arrives on the other side of Australia in Perth.

More importantly I need to know if any of you are interested in a group order of unseasoned highly figured blackwood. Check out the images and either make a post or sen me a PM. The availability of this unseasoned material is irregular at best.

Okay guys thanks for the response.

There is a resonable supply of blackwood (Images 2 & 4) sourced from two 3' diameter logs for each figure type.
The logs can be sawn into boards 10 x 2 with a length varing from 36" - 42". I will check.


Blackwood (Image 3 &5) from some buttress material is limited to about 10 irregular shaped boards. There maybe a little more when we go back into the forrest.


Most economic shipping method is a pallet via sea mail to an agreed dock with someone at your end to liase. I will let the thread run for a day or so to measure the response.

I have images of some other blackwood for drop tops/laminated tops that I will post later.

If the price is attractive I would like to build an Archtop out of Black Acacia.

Pricing would be about $40 - $50 USD per board foot with high figure and without faults. Figure will range from full face fiddleback to flame with good contrasting colour.

Bloody hell Tim, that's some nice blackwood. I don't know whether to buy some from you, or to save my pennys and convince the missus that we should have our next holiday in Tassy.

Actually, I've already just about sold her on the idea. I wonder if she'll be upset when she realises it's a wood hunting expedition. There's a ferry that we can put the stationwagon on in Sydney, and drive off the next morning in Tasmania. Sounds like a plan. Maybe I should buy some roof racks first?

Arnt the thought had crossed my mind, but I haven't been able to come up with a plausable explaination that I can tell the lovely wife that will explain the trailer before we leave on the ferry. I don't want to give the game away before we get there or I'll have to listen to nagging all the way to Tassy. I've been thinking pretty hard about it too.

The big concern here for me is the cost of shipping....realistically, it will be as much as the wood. That is a hidden cost I would like to have some real data on before proceeding.

Nice wood. Great color on those funky big slabs...
